During one five-year span from 1993-1998, the school mourned the deaths of 14 students in a series of crashes. Defensive driving course now required to park at Beaufort High Beaufort High School students who want to park their cars on campus this year must take a defensive driving course called "Alive at 25" before they claim a parking permit. The course, which costs $35, is designed to teach teens about the dangers of distracted driving. Principal Corey Murphy said the course goes beyond what students learn in a driver's ed course. Police go-kart used as teaching tool for teen drivers Three Upstate police departments have replaced their beer goggles with a new teaching tool they hope will curb the number of teen drivers who have died as a result of drunken driving.
